The Alley Street Clay Club is a privately operated, newly imagined space at 17 Alley Street, in downtown Charlottetown. We have restored an aging automotive building and converted it into a fresh and modern destination, with a nod to its industrial past, coupled with a warm and welcome feel. We are wheelchair accessible and, with an abundance of natural light, the studio is a tranquil place to explore new ideas, improve your skills and create beyond your imagination! Our members are responsible for their own work & practice; we are here to support you through providing a beautiful space in which to work, and by offering courses & workshops to explore your creative path. We are committed to offering an upscale and inspirational venue to the ceramic arts community. Thank you for sharing and supporting our vision.
Yes! We have room for up to 8 cars at once. But we are also just a 3-minute walk from University Avenue’s T3 bus stops.
Classes and workshops are non-refundable. If we are able to refill the spot we will issue a refund minus a $50 administration fee.
The facility is reserved for paying members and class attendees only. This allows us to maintain a quiet and creative space, without distraction or concerns around safety etc.
We do not offer an option to pause memberships. If members wish to take a break from their studio membership, they can cancel with one month’s notice and add their name to the waitlist again.
All clay being fired with us must be purchased on site. This will help us to offer regulated firings with relatively predictable results.
Members can bring outside cone 6 glazes only if given prior permission. All outside glazes must be tested on a cookie, with notes written to detail what they are. Outside glazes cannot be combined with our studio glazes.
The studio has been designed to be a tranquil space to contemplate and create. We ask that conversation be limited to the sharing of ideas and technique, and that overall volume be kept at a low level.
Every single one of us is entitled to work or relax in a safe place. Members, students and instructors are expected to treat one another with equality, politeness and respect at all times and, if subjected to or witness discrimination, bullying or harassment, will speak out knowing that all voices will be heard and taken seriously.
All members, students, instructors and Open-Practice participants are expected to keep the studio as clean and tidy as possible. All work spaces are to be cleaned up once you’ve finished up with them. Rinse all surfaces with a wet sponge and dry with a clean, dry sponge afterwards.
All stages of pottery-making require the use of water, but we ask that everyone please use water conservatively. Use only as much water as you need.
Absolutely no clay down the drains! Clay can do immense damage to plumbing systems. Do not discard any clay or clay by-product down the drain. This includes clay/slip that’s left in your throwing buckets or in your wheel pan. Instead, please follow the signs regarding the disposal of slip and clay, so that both can be reclaimed as much as possible and used again in future.
Clay Reclaim. The studio will be outfitted with a pugmill, to allow for as much clay to be reclaimed as possible. Directions will be provided in terms of where and how to store/prepare clay so that it can be reclaimed and re-used.
